It was an ordinary day. I was looking up information on my phone when I came across an app called Charity Miles. Using the app, I chose to donate to the United Service Organization (USO) by walking, running or biking. My choice as well as others allowed U.S. Military service members to connect home “without cost” to them or their families. The USO has always been near and dear to my heart because of family members that have served and others who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Late Summer
After using the app for a few weeks I received an email from an unknown account. To my surprise it was telling me I had the opportunity to be flown to San Francisco to continue giving back to the soldiers. Johnson & Johnson chose eleven people from the United States to join them in California.

My Experience:
Once I arrived in California, I had the opportunity to explore...which was perfect for me. I was able to photograph many beautiful places in San Francisco. The next morning everyone in our group met up and began to create care packages with all the necessities a soldier would need. I was in a perfect atmosphere. I was surrounded by people that wanted to be the change in the world just like me. Everyone there was under the age of 20, but we were all making a difference in the world. It is mind blowing to believe that all of this started back in my little home town.
One person can make all the difference
This began as a single girl raising money for a charity she was passionate about. This event has made me into much more of a believer that anyone can do anything. One became a group of eleven that teamed up with a national company to give back to hundreds. When passion and drive are put together it creates a recipe for greatness.
