Updated: Oct 14, 2018

The New York Times:

The New York Times newspaper was founded in 1851and is based out of New York City but is read world-wide. This paper has won 125 Pulitzer Prizes, more than any other newspaper. This newspaper has many different article sections such as U.S., World, Tech, Food, and many others. It carries information about politics, economy, entertainment, business, sports, trade and commerce. The New York Times has helped to keep me abreast of what is happening in the world I live in. I can learn about the most recent political debate or even interesting places to travel. By putting the subtitle options at the top of the page it makes it simple and quick to move to an article of choice.

Finger Lakes Times:

The Finger Lakes Times is my local newspaper back home. A paper boy delivers it daily to my doorstep. This paper has information about what is happening in and around my town. One of the sections that I look at the frequently is called Police Beat. I like to stay informed about what is happening in and around my town. This paper includes news, sports, lifestyles, health business, classifieds and obituaries to name a few. I enjoy looking at the new local businesses to see if any family companies are starting up. I had not thought about having access to my hometown paper until my professor mentioned it in class and I am going begin reading my hometown paper online while I am in college. This will allow me to see what is happening back home.

Science News and Discoveries:

This is an app that I have on my phone. I am majoring in Biology and I think it is important to stay updated on recent discoveries and news. I personally enjoy looking on the medical section of the app. There are a variety of news articles on here that many people would be interested it. One of the latest stories I was reading about is how a medication to help treat liver failure could also be used to help treat Alzheimer patients. I really enjoy this app and being able to obtain knowledge quickly.

Snapchat:

I am on snapchat often throughout the day. While on the app, I can look at a wide variety of stories. I have actually learned many weird and interesting facts while scrolling through my phone. There is a topic about everything and a variety of sources. Snapchat allows one to search different topics that contain stories. One difference with Snapchat is that there are videos and pictures included with the articles. The people at an effected area can post what is happening and it makes the story more personal. Also, Snapchat allows you to subscribe to certain editors to get only their articles.

Facebook:

I do not scroll through Facebook that often but when I do I see many news updates. This can be from a wide variety of people. For example, a person may share an article from a website or news channel. I see political, environmental, and social news on Facebook. While reading these articles and posts, I have to be aware that not all of them are truthful. Once I see a story that interests me, I like to search it on google and find more information about it. Facebook serves as a place to get informed on an event, but not necessarily teach you about it. Facebook is also a way for friends and families to stay connected.
