This act states that "segregation on the grounds of race, religion, or national origin was banned at all places of public accommodation, including courthouses, parks, restaurants, theaters, sports arenas, and hotels.
John F. Kennedy proposed an act in 1973 and stated "The United States will not be fully free until all of its citizens are free." This act is continuing the process to unify the country to become a better nation together than separate. Unfortunately Kennedy was assassinated later than year but Lyndon B. Johnson took over his work. When the act made it to the Senate it had trouble getting passed. A total of 75 days passed and people continued to do everything in their power to hult the voting. The voting happened and is passed through the Senate and the Act was signed on July 2nd 1964.
Even Martin Luther King was very happy about this act getting passed, he said "this is no more than a second emancipation proclamation." This one a big step during the Civil Rights Movement.
