Klansville U.S.A.

Updated: Nov 20, 2018

The Ku Klux Klan was said that they were "people who were better than blacks but less than successful white people." The group began to grow because many whites were scared that other races would begin to take their jobs. This fear helped to grow the amount of members across the nation. The Ku Klux Klan grew rapidly in North Carolina which is where they got the nickname Klansville.

When the Klan met it was seen as a social gathering. They had music, auctions, food, and many other things. Some even brought their children. At these gatherings white leaders would speak hate against other races and try to create anger in the whites during the speeches. By pushing the members "buttons," it made them more dedicated to the Klan because their hatred continued to grow against all other races.

The Klan would all gather and walk around the town. Although they said these walks were harmless they were a statement to show their power over the other races. They were in their robes and hoods which was intimidating to many. When they walked they forced everyone to move out of their way. When they walked they stated it was in order to show everyone that they were human and to grow awareness of their Klan. These Klans were not only in the south but all across the nation. This group played a big role in the divide between races in the nation.
