Today was our town hall meeting where we debated pro vs anti slavery by pretending to be a significant person from history. Harriet Tubman was an abolitionist. I learned many things about her life that I had never known. She was born into slavery in Maryland. She escaped but felt guilty because her family was still enslaved.

This is how her fight against slavery began. She became an activist because of the events she witnessed and endured as a slave. She was beaten so badly that her skull was split open. This caused her damage for the rest of her life. She developed epilepsy and narcolepsy from this beating. This traumatic experience made her deeply passionate about trying to free other slaves. She began the Underground Railroad in order to free slaves. In total, she took 19 trips and freed over 300 slaves. One thing she said was "every great dreamer begins with a dream." Harriet Tubman played a tremendous role in the fight against slavery that so many have looked up to.
